Clawson is a city located in Oakland County, Michigan, the United States. It is about 15 miles north of downtown Detroit and is surrounded by Troy, Royal Oak, and Madison Heights. Clawson is located at approximately 42.5334° North latitude and 83.1463° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 12,389 residents, and the city covers about 2.21 square miles (5.72 sq km). Clawson grew from a farming settlement into a suburban community as the Detroit metropolitan area expanded. It was incorporated as a village in 1921 and became a city in 1940. Its location near Interstate 75, Interstate 696, and major suburban roads provides easy access to Detroit and other communities in southeastern Michigan.
