Farmington is a city located in Oakland County, Michigan, the United States. It lies in southeastern Michigan, about 20 miles northwest of downtown Detroit, 5 miles north of Livonia, and immediately south of Farmington Hills. Farmington is positioned at approximately 42.464° North latitude and 83.377° West longitude. The city covers about 2.66 square miles, or 6.89 square kilometers, of land. The 2020 Census recorded 10,600 residents, while the 2023 population estimate was about 10,500. Farmington stands at an elevation of roughly 680 feet above sea level. The city grew from an agricultural settlement into a suburban community as the Detroit metropolitan area expanded. Its historic downtown remains one of its most recognizable features, with older commercial buildings, restaurants, shops, and community spaces around Grand River Avenue. Heritage Park and Shiawassee Park provide green space and recreational areas.
