Where is Ferndale Located?
Ferndale is a city located in Oakland County, Michigan, the United States. It lies in southeastern Michigan, about 10 miles north of downtown Detroit, 2 miles south of Royal Oak, and roughly 15 miles east of Pontiac. Ferndale is positioned at approximately 42.460° North latitude and 83.134° West longitude. The city covers about 3.88 square miles, or 10.05 square kilometers, of land. The 2020 Census recorded 18,258 residents, while the 2023 population estimate was about 18,500. Ferndale stands at an elevation of roughly 650 feet above sea level. The city developed rapidly in the early 20th century as Detroit expanded northward and streetcar and automobile transportation improved. Woodward Avenue became a major commercial corridor, while residential neighborhoods grew around it. Today, downtown Ferndale is known for its restaurants, independent businesses, cultural events, and arts community.
