Where is Greenbelt Located?
Greenbelt is a city located in Prince George's County, Maryland, the United States. It lies in central Prince George's County, about 13 miles northeast of downtown Washington, D.C., and roughly 30 miles southwest of Baltimore. Greenbelt is part of the Washington metropolitan area and has direct access to the Capital Beltway, Baltimore-Washington Parkway, and U.S. Route 1. The city is located at approximately 39.004° North latitude and 76.875° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 24,833 residents. Greenbelt covers about 6.29 square miles, or 16.29 square kilometers, including land and water. The city was planned and developed by the federal government in the 1930s as a model community during the New Deal. Greenbelt's historic core, known as the Greenbelt Homes Historic District, preserves the original planned layout and early cooperative housing. Greenbelt Park, a unit of the National Park Service, provides wooded trails and outdoor recreation. The city also benefits from Metro rail and regional transit connections to Washington, D.C.
