Jersey City is a city located in Hudson County, New Jersey, the United States. It lies in northeastern New Jersey, directly across the Hudson River from Lower Manhattan and about 8 miles west of Midtown Manhattan. Jersey City is part of the New York metropolitan area and sits between the Hudson and Hackensack Rivers. The city is located at approximately 40.728° North latitude and 74.078° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 292,449 residents. Jersey City covers about 21.08 square miles, or 54.59 square kilometers, including water. Its land area is about 14.74 square miles. The city was settled during the 17th century and incorporated in 1838. Liberty State Park is one of its best-known attractions, offering views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Manhattan skyline.
