Where is Linwood Located?

Linwood is a city located in Atlantic County, New Jersey, the United States. It lies on the mainland of southern New Jersey, about 10 miles southwest of Atlantic City and roughly 15 miles southeast of Hammonton. The city is located at approximately 39.345° North latitude and 74.575° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,971 residents, and Linwood covers about 4.10 square miles (10.62 sq km). The community developed as a residential settlement during the 19th century and was incorporated as a borough in 1889 before becoming a city in 1931. Linwood grew with the expansion of rail transportation and the development of nearby Atlantic City as a major coastal resort. The city is surrounded by the flat coastal landscape of the New Jersey Pine Barrens and Atlantic coastal plain, with wetlands and tidal waterways nearby. Linwood City Park and the adjoining recreational areas provide places for walking, sports, playground activities, and community events. Nearby beaches in Longport, Margate City, Ventnor City, and Atlantic City provide access to the Atlantic Ocean. A unique feature of Linwood is its location on the mainland just west of the barrier-island communities of the Jersey Shore. The city also has convenient road connections through U.S. Route 9 and New Jersey Route 152 to Atlantic City, Somers Point, and other coastal communities.
