It lies in the northern Berkshires near the Vermont border, about 35 miles north of Pittsfield and roughly 5 miles south of the Vermont state line. Williamstown is about 5 miles west, while Adams is around 5 miles southeast. North Adams is positioned near 42.700° North latitude and 73.116° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 12,961 residents. The city covers about 20.60 square miles, or 53.35 square kilometers, including land and water. Mount Greylock, the highest point in Massachusetts, rises south of the city and provides hiking, scenic drives, and mountain views.
