North Adams is a city located in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, the United States. It lies in the northern Berkshires near the Vermont border, about 35 miles north of Pittsfield and roughly 5 miles south of the Vermont state line. Williamstown is about 5 miles west, while Adams is around 5 miles southeast. North Adams is positioned near 42.700° North latitude and 73.116° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 12,961 residents. The city covers about 20.60 square miles, or 53.35 square kilometers, including land and water. Mount Greylock, the highest point in Massachusetts, rises south of the city and provides hiking, scenic drives, and mountain views. MASS MoCA, one of the largest centers for contemporary art in the United States, occupies a group of historic factory buildings in downtown North Adams. The city grew rapidly during the 19th century through textile and manufacturing industries. North Adams was incorporated as a city in 1878.
