Northfield is a city located in Atlantic County, New Jersey, the United States. It lies in southern New Jersey, about 7 miles west of Atlantic City and roughly 10 miles east of Mays Landing. Linwood is about 2 miles south, while Pleasantville is around 3 miles northeast. Northfield is positioned near 39.367° North latitude and 74.550° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 8,434 residents. The city covers about 3.53 square miles, or 9.14 square kilometers, including land and water. Northfield is part of the mainland communities surrounding Atlantic City and is only a short drive from the Atlantic Ocean and the beaches of Absecon Island. Nearby attractions include the Atlantic City Boardwalk, Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, and the historic communities of Linwood and Somers Point. Northfield was incorporated as a borough in 1905 and later became a city in 1925. A unique fact about Northfield is its location on the mainland just west of the Atlantic City resort area, allowing it to remain primarily residential while being close to major coastal attractions. The city is also part of the Mainland Regional High School community.
