Tecumseh is a city located in Lenawee County, Michigan, the United States. It lies in southeastern Michigan, about 45 miles southwest of Detroit and roughly 15 miles southwest of Ann Arbor. Adrian is about 15 miles southwest, while Saline is approximately 15 miles northeast of Tecumseh. The city is located at 42.0039° North latitude and 83.9447° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 8,680 residents. Tecumseh covers about 6.65 square miles, or approximately 17.22 square kilometers. The surrounding landscape includes rolling farmland, wooded areas, small streams, and the Raisin River watershed. Tecumseh was founded in 1824 and named after the Shawnee leader Tecumseh. Its historic downtown contains older commercial buildings, civic structures, and locally preserved architecture that reflects the community's early development.
