Wixom is a city located in Oakland County, Michigan, the United States. It is in southeastern Michigan, about 30 miles northwest of downtown Detroit, 5 miles west of Novi, and approximately 5 miles south of Milford. Wixom lies at approximately 42.525° North latitude and 83.537° West longitude. The city had 17,193 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 9.36 square miles, or 24.24 square kilometers. Wixom was incorporated as a village in 1957 and became a city in 1971. Its development was influenced by the expansion of the Detroit metropolitan area, transportation networks, manufacturing, and industrial development. Today, Wixom has a mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, and large industrial and technology parks. The surrounding landscape includes lakes, wetlands, wooded areas, and rolling terrain typical of southeastern Michigan. Nearby recreational destinations include Proud Lake Recreation Area, Kensington Metropark, and Maybury State Park. Wixom is also close to Walled Lake and several communities along the Huron River.
