The city was established in 1883 with the arrival of the Houston and Texas Central Railway and was named after Anna Quinlan, the daughter of a railroad official. Anna developed as an agricultural community and has grown rapidly as a residential suburb within the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan region.
