The city was established in the late nineteenth century and was named after the nearby Aransas Pass, a natural channel connecting the Gulf of Mexico to Corpus Christi Bay. Aransas Pass developed as a fishing, shipping, and coastal community within the Coastal Bend region of South Texas.
