Hidalgo is a city located in Hidalgo County in the U.S. state of Texas, United States. The city was established in the mid-nineteenth century and was named after Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a leader in Mexico’s independence movement. Hidalgo developed as a border community along the Rio Grande and plays an important role in international trade and cultural exchange between the United States and Mexico.
