Havre de Grace is a city located in Harford County, Maryland, the United States. It lies at the mouth of the Susquehanna River on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, about 40 miles northeast of Baltimore and roughly 45 miles southwest of Wilmington, Delaware. The city is part of the Baltimore metropolitan area and sits near the northern end of the Chesapeake Bay. Havre de Grace is located at approximately 39.549° North latitude and 76.091° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 14,807 residents. The city covers about 6.89 square miles, or 17.85 square kilometers, including land and water. Havre de Grace was founded in the late 18th century and incorporated in 1785. George Washington reportedly visited the area, and the community was named after Le Havre in France. Its location at the mouth of the Susquehanna River made it an important port and transportation center during the 18th and 19th centuries. The city's maritime heritage remains visible along the waterfront, where the Concord Point Lighthouse and Havre de Grace Promenade are major landmarks.
