Latrobe is a city located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, the United States. It lies in southwestern Pennsylvania along Loyalhanna Creek, about 40 miles east of Pittsburgh and roughly 20 miles southeast of Greensburg. The city is located at approximately 40.321° North latitude and 79.379° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 8,311 residents, and Latrobe covers about 2.34 square miles (6.06 sq km). The community was founded in the 18th century and incorporated as a borough in 1854 before becoming a city in 1994. Latrobe developed as a railroad, industrial, and commercial center and was later associated with several notable figures and institutions. Saint Vincent College is located just west of the city and has a long history dating to 1846. Latrobe is also famous as the birthplace of Arnold Palmer, one of the most influential professional golfers of the 20th century. The nearby Arnold Palmer Regional Airport serves the region. A unique feature of Latrobe is its combination of small-city character, historic railroad heritage, and strong connections to golf history.
