Lower Burrell is a city located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, the United States. It lies in western Pennsylvania along the eastern side of the Allegheny River, about 25 miles northeast of Pittsburgh and roughly 10 miles northwest of Greensburg. The city is located at approximately 40.591° North latitude and 79.719° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 11,028 residents, and Lower Burrell covers about 11.61 square miles (30.07 sq km). The community developed during the 20th century as a residential area serving the industrial towns and coal-producing communities of the Allegheny Valley. Lower Burrell was incorporated as a city in 1959 after growing from several smaller settlements and townships. The nearby Allegheny River is one of the area's most important geographic features and provides scenic views and opportunities for fishing and boating. The city also has access to parks and wooded recreation areas, including Kinlochewe Park and Valley Camp Park. A unique feature of Lower Burrell is its position between the Allegheny Valley's historic industrial communities and the suburban areas northeast of Pittsburgh.
