It lies along the Monongahela River in southwestern Pennsylvania, about 35 miles south of Pittsburgh and about 12 miles north of the West Virginia state line. Belle Vernon is about 5 miles southwest, while Greensburg is roughly 20 miles northeast. Monessen is positioned near 40.148° North latitude and 79.887° West longitude.
