Alamosa is a city located in Alamosa County, Colorado, the United States. The city sits in the heart of the San Luis Valley at the junction of U.S. Highways 160 and 285. It is approximately 35 miles (56 km) southwest of Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, 120 miles (193 km) southwest of Pueblo, and about 235 miles (378 km) south of Denver. Alamosa is located at 37.4694° North latitude and 105.8700° West longitude. According to the 2020 United States Census, the city had a population of 9,806. Alamosa covers approximately 7.52 square miles (19.48 sq km). It is home to Adams State University and is widely recognized as the commercial, educational, and transportation hub of the San Luis Valley.
