Coatesville is a city located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, the United States. It is about 40 miles west of Philadelphia and 25 miles southeast of Lancaster. Coatesville is located at approximately 39.9832° North latitude and 75.8238° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 13,350 residents, and the city covers about 1.70 square miles (4.40 sq km). The city developed along the West Branch Brandywine Creek and became an important center for iron and steel production. Coatesville was incorporated as a borough in 1867 and became a city in 1915. Its location along the former Pennsylvania Railroad and near major highways helped support its industrial growth and continues to connect it with communities across southeastern Pennsylvania.
