It lies along the Youghiogheny River in southwestern Pennsylvania, about 50 miles southeast of Pittsburgh and roughly 20 miles north of Uniontown. Connellsville is located at approximately 40.0162° North latitude and 79.5895° West longitude. The city covers about 2.35 square miles (6.09 sq km) and had 7,391 residents in the 2020 Census. The river and nearby hills have shaped the city's landscape and history. Connellsville developed as a major center for coal mining, coke production, and railroad transportation during the Industrial Age. It was incorporated as a borough in 1806 and later became a city in 1911. Today, the city is known for its historic industrial heritage and its location near the Laurel Highlands. The Great Allegheny Passage runs through the area and connects Connellsville with Pittsburgh and Cumberland, Maryland.
