It lies along the Youghiogheny River in southwestern Pennsylvania, about 50 miles southeast of Pittsburgh and roughly 20 miles north of Uniontown. Connellsville is located at approximately 40.0162° North latitude and 79.5895° West longitude. The city covers about 2.35 square miles (6.09 sq km) and had 7,391 residents in the 2020 Census. Connellsville developed as a major center for coal mining, coke production, and railroad transportation during the Industrial Age. It was incorporated as a borough in 1806 and later became a city in 1911. Today, the city is known for its historic industrial heritage and its location near the Laurel Highlands.
