La Junta is a city located in Otero County, Colorado, the United States. It lies in southeastern Colorado along the Arkansas River, about 70 miles east of Pueblo and roughly 160 miles southeast of Colorado Springs. The city is located at approximately 37.986° North latitude and 103.543° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,322 residents, and La Junta covers about 3.07 square miles (7.95 sq km). The community grew as a transportation center along the Santa Fe Trail and later became an important railroad town. One of its best-known landmarks is Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site, a reconstructed 19th-century trading post located west of the city.
