Nanticoke is a city located in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, the United States. It lies in northeastern Pennsylvania in the Wyoming Valley, near the Susquehanna River. Nanticoke is about 10 miles southwest of Wilkes-Barre, 30 miles northeast of Hazleton, and roughly 30 miles southwest of Scranton. The city is positioned near 41.205° North latitude and 76.005° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 10,628 residents. Nanticoke covers about 3.54 square miles, or 9.18 square kilometers, including about 3.46 square miles of land. The Susquehanna River is an important geographic feature near the city. Luzerne County Community College is a major educational landmark. Nanticoke grew during the anthracite coal boom and became a city in 1926. Concrete City, a former coal company housing development, remains a distinctive reminder of the area's industrial past.
