Pottsville is a city located in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, the United States. It lies in the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Pennsylvania along the Schuylkill River. Pottsville is about 95 miles northwest of Philadelphia, 45 miles west of Allentown, and roughly 35 miles northeast of Reading. The city is positioned near 40.685° North latitude and 76.195° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 13,346 residents. Pottsville covers about 4.15 square miles, or 10.75 square kilometers. The city was incorporated in 1806 and became the county seat of Schuylkill County in 1811. Pottsville grew rapidly during the 19th century because of the rich anthracite coal deposits found throughout the region. The city is also famous for being home to the Yuengling Brewery, founded in 1829 and recognized as America's oldest operating brewing company. The historic Yuengling brewery is one of Pottsville's best-known landmarks. Another major attraction is the Schuylkill County Historical Society, which preserves local history and artifacts.
