Where is Salida Located?
Salida is a city located in Chaffee County, Colorado, the United States. It lies in central Colorado along the Arkansas River, about 25 miles southeast of Buena Vista and roughly 80 miles southwest of Colorado Springs. Poncha Springs borders Salida to the west, while the city is surrounded by the mountains of the Sawatch Range and the Arkansas River Valley. Salida is positioned near 38.5347° North latitude and 105.9989° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 5,666 residents. The city covers about 2.54 square miles, or 6.58 square kilometers. Salida was founded in the late 19th century and incorporated in 1891. Its early growth was closely tied to the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad and the development of mining and agriculture in the Upper Arkansas Valley. Today, tourism, outdoor recreation, local businesses, and services are important parts of the economy. A unique feature of Salida is its location beside the Arkansas River, which provides opportunities for rafting, kayaking, fishing, and riverfront recreation.
