It is in eastern Missouri, about 30 miles west of downtown St. Louis, 12 miles southwest of St. Charles, and near the Missouri River. Weldon Spring lies at approximately 38.713° North latitude and 90.690° West longitude. The city had 5,607 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 8.09 square miles, or 20.95 square kilometers. Weldon Spring developed from a rural community into a suburban city as the western St. Louis metropolitan area expanded. The area has a distinctive history connected to the Weldon Spring Ordnance Works, which produced explosives during World War II. Today, the site is part of a federal cleanup area with a large disposal cell and interpretive trail. The surrounding landscape includes rolling hills, forests, limestone formations, and streams.
