Boonville is a city located in Cooper County, Missouri, the United States. It is located in central Missouri on the southern bank of the Missouri River. Boonville is approximately 28 miles west of Columbia, 35 miles northeast of Sedalia, and 95 miles west of St. Louis. The city is positioned at approximately 38.9736° North latitude and 92.7432° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,964 residents. Boonville covers about 7.21 square miles, or 18.67 square kilometers, including about 7.11 square miles of land and 0.10 square miles of water. Katy Trail State Park is one of the area's best-known attractions and follows a former railroad corridor along the Missouri River. Boonville was founded in 1817 and became an important river town and trading center. Its historic downtown preserves many buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
