It is the county seat of Livingston County and is about 90 miles northeast of Kansas City and 75 miles southeast of St. Joseph. Chillicothe is located at approximately 39.7950° North latitude and 93.5524° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 9,107 residents, and the city covers about 7.03 square miles (18.21 sq km). The surrounding area is largely agricultural, with fertile farmland supporting corn, soybeans, livestock, and other farm products. Chillicothe was founded in 1837 and incorporated in 1851.
