Delta is a city located in Delta County, Colorado, the United States. It is the county seat of Delta County and lies in western Colorado between Grand Junction and Montrose. Delta is about 50 miles southwest of Grand Junction, 35 miles north of Montrose, and roughly 65 miles east of the Utah state line. The city is located at approximately 38.7422° North latitude and 108.0684° West longitude. Delta covers about 7.78 square miles (20.15 sq km) and had 9,035 residents in the 2020 Census. The city sits near the confluence of the Gunnison and Uncompahgre valleys, where irrigation supports farms, orchards, and vineyards. Delta was founded in the late 19th century and incorporated in 1882. Its location along the Gunnison River helped it grow as an agricultural and trading center. The surrounding area has dramatic mesas, high desert landscapes, and views of the San Juan and West Elk mountains.
