Eureka is a city located in St. Louis County, Missouri, the United States. It lies in the southwestern part of the St. Louis metropolitan area, about 30 miles southwest of downtown St. Louis and 10 miles west of Wildwood. Eureka is positioned at approximately 38.502° North latitude and 90.627° West longitude. The city covers about 10.20 square miles, or 26.42 square kilometers, of land. The 2020 Census recorded 11,646 residents, while the 2023 population estimate was about 12,000. Eureka stands at an elevation of roughly 620 feet above sea level. Six Flags St. Louis is the city's best-known attraction and draws visitors from across the region. Eureka also developed along the historic Route 66 corridor, which remains part of its local heritage. Its location near the Meramec River, wooded hills, and the western St. Louis suburbs gives the city a mix of residential, historic, and outdoor landscapes.
