Fort Lupton is a city located in Weld County, Colorado, the United States. It lies in the South Platte River Valley of northern Colorado, about 30 miles north of downtown Denver, 15 miles south of Greeley, and roughly 10 miles east of Thornton. Fort Lupton is positioned at approximately 40.084° North latitude and 104.813° West longitude. The city covers about 5.82 square miles, or 15.07 square kilometers, of land. The 2020 Census recorded 8,763 residents, while recent estimates place the population at about 9,000. Fort Lupton stands at an elevation of roughly 4,980 feet above sea level. The city grew from an 1830s trading and military post near the South Platte River and later developed around agriculture, irrigation, railroads, and regional commerce. The historic Fort Lupton site is one of the area's most notable landmarks.
