Fort Morgan is a city located in Morgan County, Colorado, the United States. It lies in northeastern Colorado along the South Platte River, about 80 miles northeast of Denver, 35 miles east of Greeley, and roughly 55 miles west of Sterling. Fort Morgan is positioned at approximately 40.251° North latitude and 103.799° West longitude. The city covers about 11.75 square miles, or 30.43 square kilometers, of land. The 2020 Census recorded 11,597 residents, while recent estimates place the population at about 11,800. Fort Morgan stands at an elevation of roughly 4,320 feet above sea level. The community began as a military fort in the 19th century and later grew into an agricultural and transportation center. Irrigated farming along the South Platte River supports crops such as corn, sugar beets, and alfalfa, while livestock and food processing are also important to the local economy.
