Greenwood is a city located in Jackson County, Missouri, the United States. It lies in western Missouri, about 25 miles southeast of downtown Kansas City and roughly 15 miles south of Independence. Greenwood is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area and is surrounded by communities such as Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, and Raymore. The city is located at approximately 38.851° North latitude and 94.346° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,640 residents. Greenwood covers about 4.79 square miles, or 12.41 square kilometers, and is primarily land. The community was founded in the 1860s and incorporated as a city in 1963. Its early growth was connected to agriculture and the railroad, while later development brought more residential neighborhoods and local businesses.
