Richmond is a city located in Ray County, Missouri, the United States. It lies in western Missouri, about 45 miles northeast of Kansas City and roughly 25 miles southwest of Excelsior Springs. Liberty is around 30 miles southwest, while Lexington is about 30 miles southeast. Richmond is positioned near 39.278° North latitude and 93.976° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 5,797 residents. The city covers about 5.90 square miles, or 15.28 square kilometers. Richmond was founded in 1828 and incorporated in 1841, becoming the county seat of Ray County. Its early growth was tied to agriculture, local government, and trade.
