Charlestown is a city located in Clark County, Indiana, the United States. It is about 20 miles northeast of Louisville, Kentucky, and 10 miles north of Jeffersonville. Charlestown is located at approximately 38.4531° North latitude and 85.6702° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,585 residents, and the city covers about 12.30 square miles (31.86 sq km). Charlestown State Park is one of the area's major recreational attractions, with wooded hills, trails, historic features, and views of the surrounding Ohio River region. Charlestown was founded in 1783 and incorporated in 1818. The city developed as an agricultural and manufacturing community and later became part of the growing Louisville metropolitan area.
