Peru is a city located in Miami County in the U.S. state of Indiana, United States. Situated in north-central Indiana along the Wabash River, the city serves as the county seat of Miami County and is known for its rich circus heritage. Peru was established in 1834 and was named after the South American country of Peru. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the city became an important center for traveling circuses and earned the nickname “Circus Capital of the World.”
