Mount Vernon is a city located in Posey County, Indiana, the United States. It lies in southwestern Indiana along the Ohio River, about 20 miles southwest of Evansville and roughly 15 miles north of the Illinois border. New Harmony is about 25 miles northwest, while Princeton is around 35 miles north. Mount Vernon is positioned near 37.932° North latitude and 87.896° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,687 residents. The city covers about 2.93 square miles, or 7.59 square kilometers, of land and water. The Ohio River is the city's most important geographic feature and has supported river commerce, industry, fishing, and recreation for generations. Hovey Lake Fish and Wildlife Area is also nearby.
