It lies along the Ohio River in southern Indiana, about 45 miles west of Louisville, Kentucky, and roughly 50 miles northeast of Evansville. Cannelton is about 5 miles west, while Santa Claus is approximately 20 miles north of Tell City. The city is located at 37.9514° North latitude and 86.7614° West longitude.
