Cottonwood is a city located in Yavapai County, Arizona, the United States. It lies in the Verde Valley, about 20 miles southwest of Sedona, 15 miles north of Camp Verde, and roughly 100 miles north of Phoenix. Cottonwood is located at approximately 34.7392° North latitude and 112.0099° West longitude. The city covers about 18.90 square miles (48.95 sq km) and had 12,988 residents in the 2020 Census. The area is surrounded by dry hills, cottonwood trees, vineyards, and red-rock landscapes. Cottonwood was incorporated in 1960 and developed from an agricultural community along the Verde River. Its warm climate supports vineyards and other crops, giving the area a different feel from the higher elevations around Sedona and Flagstaff. Old Town Cottonwood is one of the city's best-known areas, with historic buildings, restaurants, galleries, and local businesses. Tuzigoot National Monument and Dead Horse Ranch State Park are nearby attractions.
