Decatur is a city located in Adams County, Indiana, the United States. It is the county seat of Adams County and lies in northeastern Indiana near the Ohio state line. Decatur is about 25 miles southwest of Fort Wayne, 40 miles northwest of Lima, Ohio, and roughly 100 miles north of Indianapolis. The city is located at approximately 40.8306° North latitude and 84.9291° West longitude. Decatur covers about 5.06 square miles (13.11 sq km) and had 9,335 residents in the 2020 Census. The St. Marys River flows through the city and has played an important role in its history and landscape. Decatur was founded in the 1830s and incorporated in 1853.
