Where is Gas City Located?

Gas City is a city located in Grant County, Indiana, the United States. It lies in east-central Indiana along the Mississinewa River, about 4 miles northeast of Marion and approximately 65 miles northeast of Indianapolis. The city is part of the Marion metropolitan area and is close to Interstate 69 and U.S. Route 35. Gas City is located at about 40.487° North latitude and 85.613° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 5,965 residents. The city covers roughly 4.93 square miles, or 12.77 square kilometers, including land and a small amount of water. Gas City was originally known as Harrisburg, but its name changed after a natural gas boom in the late 19th century. The discovery of natural gas helped attract factories and new residents. Today, the Mississinewa River and nearby parks provide opportunities for fishing, walking, boating, and other outdoor activities.
