Linton is a city located in Greene County, Indiana, the United States. It lies in southwestern Indiana, about 35 miles southeast of Terre Haute and roughly 25 miles south of Bloomington. The city is located at approximately 39.038° North latitude and 87.166° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 4,829 residents, and Linton covers about 4.15 square miles (10.75 sq km). The community was founded in the early 19th century and grew rapidly during the coal-mining era. Coal mining became a major part of Linton's economy and helped shape its neighborhoods, businesses, transportation network, and local history. Today, the city retains several reminders of its mining past while serving as a small regional center for southern Greene County. Humphreys Park is a popular local recreation area with walking paths, sports facilities, playgrounds, and open spaces.
