Scottsburg is a city located in Scott County, Indiana, the United States. It lies in southern Indiana, about 30 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky, and approximately 40 miles south of Columbus, Indiana. Indianapolis is about 45 miles north of Scottsburg. The city is located at 38.6851° North latitude and 85.7702° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,747 residents. Scottsburg covers about 6.70 square miles (17.35 square kilometers), with nearly all of its area consisting of land. Hardy Lake State Recreation Area, east of the city, is one of the best-known nearby outdoor attractions and offers boating, fishing, hiking, and camping. Scottsburg also serves as the county seat of Scott County. A unique fact about the city is its location along the historic north-south transportation corridor that later became Interstate 65, connecting southern Indiana with Louisville and Indianapolis.
