Greenfield is a city located in Monterey County, California, the United States. It lies in the southern Salinas Valley, about 30 miles southeast of Salinas and roughly 35 miles northeast of Monterey. The city is surrounded by agricultural fields and vineyards and is part of California's Central Coast region. Greenfield is located at approximately 36.321° North latitude and 121.244° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 19,096 residents. Greenfield covers about 2.14 square miles, or 5.54 square kilometers, and is primarily land. The city was incorporated in 1947 and developed as an agricultural community along the Southern Pacific Railroad and the Salinas River valley. Farming remains an important part of the local economy, with crops such as lettuce, broccoli, wine grapes, and other vegetables grown in the surrounding area.
