Mendota is a city located in Fresno County, California, the United States. It lies in the western San Joaquin Valley, about 35 miles west of Fresno and roughly 30 miles southeast of Los Banos. Mendota is located at approximately 36.753° North latitude and 120.381° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 12,595 residents, and the city covers about 3.32 square miles (8.60 sq km). Mendota was incorporated in 1942 and developed as an agricultural community in one of the most productive farming regions of California. The local economy has long depended on crops such as melons, tomatoes, onions, cotton, almonds, and other agricultural products. Irrigation has played a major role in transforming the surrounding dry valley landscape into productive farmland.
