Selma is a city located in Fresno County, California, the United States. It lies in the central San Joaquin Valley, about 15 miles southeast of Fresno and 8 miles west of Reedley. Selma is roughly 20 miles from Visalia and about 65 miles from Bakersfield. The city is located at 36.5708° North latitude and 119.6121° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 24,674 residents. Selma covers about 5.8 square miles (15.0 square kilometers), with nearly all of its area consisting of land. The surrounding agricultural region produces grapes, raisins, peaches, citrus, and other crops. The Selma Raisin Festival is one of the city’s best-known annual events. A unique feature of Selma is its long-standing connection to raisin production, which earned the community the nickname “Raisin Capital of the World.”
