Calipatria is located at approximately 33.1256° North latitude and 115.5141° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,515 residents, and the city covers about 3.72 square miles (9.63 sq km). The Salton Sea is a major nearby geographic landmark, while the surrounding Imperial Valley is known for irrigated agriculture. Calipatria was incorporated in 1919 and is notable for having one of the lowest elevations of any incorporated city in the United States, with much of the community below sea level.
