Carpinteria is located at approximately 34.3989° North latitude and 119.5185° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 13,352 residents, and the city covers about 9.02 square miles (23.36 sq km). Carpinteria State Beach and the Pacific Ocean are major geographic landmarks along the city's southern edge. Carpinteria was incorporated in 1965 and developed from an agricultural and coastal settlement with a long Chumash and Spanish-era history.
