Coronado is a city located in San Diego County, California, the United States. It sits on a peninsula between San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean, directly across the bay from downtown San Diego. Coronado is about 5 miles from downtown San Diego and roughly 20 miles north of the Mexican border. The city lies at approximately 32.6859° North latitude and 117.1831° West longitude. Coronado covers about 32.66 square miles (84.59 sq km), although much of that area is water, and had 20,192 residents in the 2020 Census. The city was incorporated in 1890 and developed as a resort community. The Hotel del Coronado is its best-known landmark and has stood along the beach since 1888. Coronado is also home to Naval Air Station North Island, an important U.S. Navy facility.
