Duarte is a city in Los Angeles County at the western edge of the San Gabriel Valley. It lies about 20 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles and near Monrovia, Arcadia, and Azusa. Where is Duarte Located?
Duarte is a city located in Los Angeles County, California, the United States. It is situated in the San Gabriel Valley, about 20 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles and approximately 5 miles east of Monrovia. Duarte lies at about 34.14° North latitude and 117.97° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 21,618 residents. The city covers approximately 6.69 square miles (17.33 square kilometers), including about 6.68 square miles of land and a very small area of water. Duarte was incorporated in 1957 and takes its name from Andrés Duarte, who received a Mexican land grant covering much of the area in the 1840s. The San Gabriel Mountains rise immediately north of the city and provide a distinctive backdrop. Duarte is also home to the City of Hope, a major medical and research institution. Nearby attractions include the Angeles National Forest, Santa Anita Canyon, and the historic Route 66 corridor. The city's location near Interstate 210 and major regional roads provides convenient access to Pasadena, Los Angeles, and other San Gabriel Valley communities.
