Gustine is a city located in Merced County, California, the United States. It lies in the western San Joaquin Valley, about 25 miles northwest of Merced and roughly 20 miles southwest of Patterson. The city is also about 75 miles southeast of San Francisco and sits near the Merced-Stanislaus county line. Gustine is located at approximately 37.257° North latitude and 121.000° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 5,520 residents. The city covers about 1.55 square miles, or 4.01 square kilometers, and is almost entirely land. Gustine was founded in the late 19th century and incorporated in 1915. Agriculture has long shaped the local economy, with dairies, orchards, row crops, and other farms surrounding the community. Gustine also has a strong Portuguese-American heritage that remains visible in local traditions and community events.
